At present, the Gallery displays 268 paintings that highlight the historical and cultural being of the local community in the mid to late 1800's. A unique feature of the Gallery is the wainscoting display of many of these paintings.
In the late 1970's, the Gallery was completely renovated with community funds and reopened in 1977. Every year, thousands of people from around the world visit the Barrow Art Gallery. Perhaps the most often heard comment is
"What a treasure this is!"
